MLB Launches Investigation into Giants Pitcher Sean Hjelle Amid Domestic Abuse Allegations

The MLB is looking into abuse allegations against Sean Hjelle made by his wife Caroline on social media.

San Francisco Giants pitcher Sean Hjelle is under investigation by Major League Baseball following allegations of abuse made by his wife.

Caroline made the allegations on Friday via a post on TikTok. The caption of her video states:

“When my MLB husband abandons us on Mothers Day a week after this, I finally found about his affairs and stopped putting up with his abuse, so I’ve been raising two boys alone.”

The Giants said in a statement on Saturday that the club is “aware of these serious allegations” and that MLB is managing the investigation.

“Obviously, we’re aware of it,” Giants manager Bob Melvin commented on Hjelle’s situation. “He informed me about it last night. We discussed it with MLB. As of now, it’s up to them, so I really can’t provide further comments.”

Melvin noted that Hjelle would be available to pitch against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, though he did not participate in the game.

Post-game on Sunday, Hjelle indicated he was waiting to consult with his lawyer and agent before making a formal statement, mentioning that he and Caroline had been navigating a divorce for over a year.

“We reached an agreement during mediation this offseason,” Hjelle clarified. “In Virginia, we had to wait a year of separation, which was filed last May. So the official divorce decree has been delayed because I started in Sacramento, and due to the agreement, there were some nuances in that.”

Hjelle, now 28, is in the fourth season of his major league career and has recorded a 4.66 ERA over six appearances for the Giants in 2025.
