Rockets Confirm Trade for Kevin Durant from Suns
The Houston Rockets have completed a significant trade deal with the Phoenix Suns for star forward Kevin Durant.
Kevin Durant has officially moved to the Houston Rockets, marking his fifth team in the NBA. The Rockets and the Phoenix Suns have finalized a deal that secures the 11-time All-NBA player for Houston. According to reports from ESPN, the Suns will receive veteran guards Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks along with six draft picks, notably including the 10th overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft.
Durant, who will turn 37 at the start of next season, is entering the last year of a four-year, $194.2 million contract. Last season, he scored an average of 26.6 points, 6 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game while missing some time due to injuries.
The Rockets had a strong playoff mix last season, finishing with a 52-30 record under coach Ime Udoka. However, they faced challenges in the playoffs against the Golden State Warriors, losing in the first round. Following speculation regarding player trades, the Rockets emerged as a leading candidate to acquire superstar talent this offseason, with Durant expressing interest in joining the team.
As the news broke about the trade, Durant was attending a Q&A panel at Fanatics Fest in New York City, responding, “We’re gonna see man, we’re gonna see,” when asked about the developments.
The trade was sealed just hours before Game 7 of the NBA Finals between the Indiana Pacers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. With this addition, the Rockets have positioned themselves as strong contenders, now having the second-best odds at +750 to win the NBA championship next season, trailing only the Thunder.
The latest odds to win the 2025-26 NBA title are as follows:
- Oklahoma City Thunder: +250
- Houston Rockets: +750
- New York Knicks: +900
- Indiana Pacers: +950
- Cleveland Cavaliers: +1100
- Minnesota Timberwolves: +1400
- Los Angeles Lakers: +1600
- Denver Nuggets: +1700
- San Antonio Spurs: +1800
- Boston Celtics: +2200
- Golden State Warriors: +2200
Durant started his career with the Seattle Supersonics/Oklahoma City Thunder before winning two championships with the Golden State Warriors. He briefly played for the Brooklyn Nets and most recently for the Suns. He is an NBA MVP and a two-time Finals MVP.
