San Diego Wave to Retire Alex Morgan's Iconic Number 13 Jersey
Alex Morgan's groundbreaking jersey retirement ceremony will honor her remarkable contributions to women's soccer after her retirement in 2024.
San Diego Wave FC announced plans to honor former striker Alex Morgan by retiring her iconic No. 13 jersey. This will be the first time any player in the club’s history has had their kit number celebrated.
Morgan officially retired from professional soccer in September 2024. The retirement ceremony is scheduled for September 7, coinciding with the match against the Houston Dash.
Lauren Leichtman, Governor of the San Diego Wave FC, emphasized Morgan’s significant contributions: > “Morgan’s legacy goes far beyond goals and accolades. She helped lay the foundation for this club and elevated the standard for what women’s soccer is today.”
Morgan, who has ties to California and played for multiple teams in the NWSL, comes with an impressive record. She retired as the all-time leading scorer for the Wave with 23 goals in 50 matches and won the 2022 NWSL Golden Boot.
Beyond soccer, Morgan continues her work in promoting women’s sports, including founding TOGETHXR, a media company focused on women athletes.
