Kyrie Irving Committed to a Three-Year, $119 Million Deal with the Mavericks
All-Star guard Kyrie Irving has opted out of his previous contract to sign a lucrative deal with the Dallas Mavericks.
All-Star guard Kyrie Irving has declined his $43 million player option with the Mavericks and will instead sign a three-year, $119 million deal to stay in Dallas, according to a report from ESPN on Tuesday.
Irving, 33, is expected to miss the entire 2025-26 NBA regular season due to an ACL injury he sustained in March. He averaged 24.7 points per game last season with a shooting percentage of 40.1% from the 3-point range.
The Mavericks finished the 2024-25 NBA season as the No. 10 seed, holding the No. 1 pick in the current draft. Irving’s championship experience with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 and his role in the Mavericks’ NBA Finals run in 2024 reinforce the value of this contract. The deal is also seen as a wager on Irving’s ability to recover from his knee injury and return to form, potentially leading a Mavericks core alongside Anthony Davis.
This marks the second substantial deal this offseason for the Mavericks, who also secured center Daniel Gafford with a three-year, $54 million contract earlier this week.
Irving’s decision comes as other notable veterans, including LeBron James and James Harden, also face looming player option choices before the June 30 deadline.
