Julian Reese Signs with Lakers: Angel Reese's Excited Response
Maryland standout Julian Reese joins the Los Angeles Lakers, with his sister Angel Reese expressing her enthusiasm on social media.
The Los Angeles Lakers signed Maryland product Julian Reese to an undrafted free agent contract on Friday, preparing him for the NBA Summer League. Julian, the brother of All-Star Angel Reese from the Chicago Sky, will have the chance to establish himself as a professional basketball player. Over his collegiate career, he became one of only two players in Maryland history to achieve at least 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, finishing with an impressive 1,015 rebounds, making him the second leading rebounder in the school’s history.
“OPPORTUNITY. COME ON JU,” Angel Reese mentioned on social media regarding her brother’s contract signing.
Reese played a crucial role in Maryland’s ‘Crab Five’ lineup that advanced to the Sweet 16 during the 2025 NCAA Tournament, averaging 13.3 points and nine rebounds per game and receiving All-Big Ten honorable mention recognition three times throughout his career. Former Maryland coach Kevin Willard expressed confidence in Julian’s future potential, stating, “I really believe one day Julian’s number will be hanging from the rafters,” praising his loyalty after not transferring during a time of frequent movement among athletes.
Although not highly regarded as a draft prospect, Reese bolstered his visibility during the Portsmouth Invitational, where he averaged 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds to make the All-Star team of the event.
The Lakers are in search of a center to solidify their starting lineup, and while Reese may not have the veteran experience the team is looking for, he could serve as an effective depth option.
