Cavaliers Trade Isaac Okoro for Lonzo Ball, Former No. 2 Pick

The Cleveland Cavaliers have finalized a trade to acquire Lonzo Ball from the Chicago Bulls, sending Isaac Okoro in return. Ball aims to recover after injuries, while Okoro's role has diminished.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached a trade agreement to acquire Lonzo Ball from the Chicago Bulls, trading away Isaac Okoro in exchange. This information comes from a source familiar with the arrangement, who wished to remain unnamed due to the trade not being finalized until the new league year begins on July 6.

Ball had a challenging season, averaging 7.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.3 assists over 35 games. He missed the previous two seasons due to injuries, including a significant knee procedure that involved a meniscus and cartilage transplant in March 2023. After encountering a sprained right wrist that sidelined him for the season’s final months, Ball is now looking to regain his form. He still has one year left on his contract, with a team option for the 2026-27 season.

The Cavaliers find themselves in need of a point guard, particularly with Ty Jerome set to become a free agent and Darius Garland uncertain for the season’s start following a left big toe surgery.

Last season, the Cavaliers posted a strong 64-18 record but were ousted in the Eastern Conference semifinals by the Indiana Pacers.

Okoro, who averaged 6.1 points and 2.4 rebounds during the past season, has shown strong defensive skills and perimeter shooting. However, his playing time shrank as the season progressed, reflected by his 14.2 minutes in the playoffs compared to nearly 19.1 minutes in the regular season.

Okoro has two years left on his contract.
