The summer of soccer is taking on a new format with the FIFA Club World Cup, showcasing an expanded edition in the United States, now featuring 32 teams vying for a substantial cash prize of $1 billion.
Several high-profile teams are competing in this newly structured contest, including the champions of UEFA, Paris Saint-Germain, and the Argentine giants Boca Juniors. Each team aspires to advance deep into the tournament. With European teams making up the majority of the competition—including 12 representatives—South America contributes six teams. Additionally, four teams from Asia and Africa participate, while five, including three MLS squads, represent North America. One spot is reserved for Oceania’s Auckland City, the only amateur team in the tournament.
While the main goal remains consistent among all contenders, the stakes differ significantly. Under the guidance of Messi, Inter Miami, along with Al-Hilal managed by Inzaghi, are seen as underdogs in a tournament largely expected to be led by European clubs. Teams like Real Madrid and Manchester City are aiming to meet high expectations, particularly after failing to secure trophies in their recent domestic campaigns.
As the tournament progresses, let’s take a look at the current tournament schedule and results.
