J.J. Barea to Join Nuggets as Assistant Coach
Former Mavericks star J.J. Barea is set to take on an assistant coaching role with the Denver Nuggets.
The Denver Nuggets have reportedly secured a familiar face on their coaching staff. Former Dallas Mavericks point guard J.J. Barea is set to join David Adelman’s staff as an assistant coach, a move that will see him sit on the front of the coaching bench rather than wear a jersey.
At 41, Barea has an extensive history in the NBA, having played 14 seasons from 2005 to 2019, mostly with the Mavericks, where he spent 11 seasons. He contributed to the Mavericks’ championship run in 2011, averaging 8.8 points and 3.2 assists during that playoff series against LeBron James and the Miami Heat.
Before his coaching stint, Barea spent time as head coach of Indios de Mayagüez in Puerto Rico in 2017 and returned to coaching in 2023 with Mets de Guaynabo. His experience will likely be an asset to the Nuggets as they navigate the upcoming season.
