Denver Nuggets Trade for Cam Johnson, Sending Michael Porter Jr. and a Future First-Round Pick
The Denver Nuggets have finalized a deal to acquire Cam Johnson from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Michael Porter Jr. and a first-round draft pick, reshaping their roster ahead of the upcoming season.
The Brooklyn Nets have reached an agreement to trade Cam Johnson to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Michael Porter Jr. and an unprotected first-round pick in the 2032 draft. This trade comes shortly after the NBA free-agency period opened on June 30. Johnson returns to the Western Conference, where he previously played a key role in helping the Phoenix Suns reach the 2021 NBA Finals, two years before Porter contributed to the Nuggets’ title run.
Last season, Johnson recorded a personal best, averaging 18.8 points in 57 games. He was traded to the Nets during the 2023 trade deadline, sparking speculation about his potential move to a playoff contender as the Nets embarked on a rebuilding phase. This deal allows the Nets to gain another future pick, alongside Porter, who averaged 18.2 points in 77 games last season. Despite his promising stats, Porter struggled with a shoulder injury during the playoffs, resulting in a tough loss for the Nuggets against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals.
