Knicks Coaching Search: New York Considers James Borrego as Assistant to Mike Brown
The New York Knicks are finalizing Mike Brown as their new head coach and are looking at James Borrego for the assistant position.
The New York Knicks are finalizing Mike Brown as their next head coach and considering James Borrego for the assistant coach position. According to Marc Stein, Borrego, currently with the New Orleans Pelicans, is a prime candidate.
Borrego was previously interviewed for the head coach role by the Knicks and had a stint with the Charlotte Hornets as head coach, finishing with a record of 138-163 from 2018 to 2022. His coaching experience also includes a role with the Orlando Magic.
The Pelicans are keen for Borrego to stay with them as their top assistant. However, teams can block coaches from leaving for lateral positions if they are under contract.
The Knicks have high hopes as they pursue a new look for their coaching staff, eyeing the perfect blend of experience and strategy that Borrego could offer.
As the only open coaching job currently available, this position is seen as highly desirable due to the Knicks’ strong roster.
