The New York Knicks have finalized their search for a new head coach by selecting Mike Brown, a two-time NBA Coach of the Year, as reported by ESPN on Wednesday.
Brown emerged as the frontrunner for the role after having a second interview, making him the first known candidate to reach this stage of the hiring process.
Previously, the Knicks interviewed former Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins and assistants James Borrego of the New Orleans Pelicans and Micah Nori of the Minnesota Timberwolves for the position.
Mike Brown made headlines by taking the Sacramento Kings to the playoffs in 2023 for the first time since 2006, earning him acclaim and honors as coach of the year. His tenure concluded with a record of 107-88 over two and a half seasons before his dismissal during the last season.
Brown is also recognized for winning the coaching award in 2009 while with Cleveland and boasts a career record of 454-304.
Tom Thibodeau, who previously led the Knicks to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years, was let go on June 3. He also received Coach of the Year accolades with two different teams.
