Golden State Warriors Explore Sign-and-Trade Options for Jonathan Kuminga as Free Agency Heats Up

The Warriors are considering sign-and-trade offers for Jonathan Kuminga as several teams show interest in the restricted free agent.

The future of Jonathan Kuminga with the Golden State Warriors is one of the most prominent topics as the 2025 NBA free agency unfolds. There is growing speculation that the Warriors might part ways with the former No. 7 overall pick through a sign-and-trade, with interest for his services increasing among teams.

The Athletic’s Anthony Slater notes that six teams have varying levels of pursuit for Kuminga, including the Sacramento Kings, Washington Wizards, Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks, and Brooklyn Nets.

Among them, the Kings and Wizards are seen as frontrunners. The Kings proposed a deal involving Devin Carter, Dario Šarić, and two second-round picks, though the Warriors reportedly are not interested in this low-ball offer. Meanwhile, Washington expressed strong interest, indicating they would like Kuminga to be a key player in their rebuilding process.

The Bulls and Heat were earlier candidates to acquire Kuminga, with Chicago discussing potential trades around last season’s trade deadline, while Miami remains a possibility due to their failure to secure Kevin Durant.

Golden State offered Kuminga a $7.9 million qualifying contract last week, confirming his status as a restricted free agent. The Warriors retain the rights to match any incoming offers, but pursuing a sign-and-trade could allow them to bring in seasoned players that can enhance their championship aspirations. With star players like Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green already on the roster, acquiring a more dependable contributor would elevate their chances in the playoffs.

Kuminga, who is 22 years old, has shown flashes of immense potential throughout his career. Although he didn’t secure a consistent spot last season, he made the most of his opportunities, notably averaging 24.3 points in the last four games of the playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

If the Warriors do not receive an appealing offer for Kuminga, they could retain him for the next season, hoping he evolves into a more dependable player.
