Ten years after a fireworks accident that resulted in him losing two and a half fingers, edge rusher Jason Pierre-Paul is planning a comeback to the NFL. Although he did not secure a spot on any team last season, the 36-year-old athlete has been diligently training, hoping for an opportunity in the league.
Pierre-Paul expressed a strong desire to return to the New York Giants, where he played for eight seasons after being selected in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. “I think that will be dope. Tremendous,” Pierre-Paul shared. “To go back somewhere where my career started … the fans know me and the type of player that I am. I’ll always be that type of player and just give ’em everything I got, which I know it will be more than enough.”
He won his first Super Bowl ring with the Giants in 2011 and was named a first-team All-Pro after achieving a career-high of 16.5 sacks that same year. A year later, Pierre-Paul was involved in an accident with fireworks that damaged his right hand. He returned to the field in November of that year and played for the Giants until 2017.
In 2018, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he notched 12.5 sacks in his debut season and won another Super Bowl in 2020. Most recently, he appeared in one game for the New Orleans Saints and two games for the Miami Dolphins in 2023.
