Thomas Partey Faces Serious Charges: Five Counts of Rape and One of Sexual Assault
Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is now facing multiple serious allegations stemming from incidents reported between 2021 and 2022.
Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The incidents occurred between 2021 and 2022, according to the Metropolitan Police, who initiated the investigation in February 2022 after receiving a report of rape.
The charges consist of three counts of rape against one woman, two counts against another woman, and an extra charge of sexual assault against a third. Partey’s attorney expressed that he denies all allegations and welcomes the chance to clear his name. “Our priority is to support the women coming forward,” stated Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, head of the investigation. Potential witnesses are encouraged to reach out to the police.
Partey’s contract with Arsenal, in place since transferring from Atletico Madrid for a sum of $60 million in October 2020, expired recently.
Partey is set to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5. His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, affirmed that he has cooperated fully with authorities throughout the investigation, wishing to defend his innocence. She stated, “Given the ongoing legal matters, my client cannot comment further.”
Jaswant Narwal from the Crown Prosecution Service added, “We have authorized the charges after carefully reviewing evidence from the police. It’s crucial to remember that the proceedings are active, and the accused has a right to a fair trial. Public interest is high, but it’s essential to avoid any prejudicial announcements online.”
Partey, a Ghanaian international with 53 caps, has made 167 appearances for Arsenal. Arsenal has yet to comment on the situation.
