PSG Leads Club World Cup Favorites: Who Can Defeat Them Among Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Others?

Paris Saint-Germain continues its dominance post-Champions League victory. A look at potential challengers.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is set to face either Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund in the FIFA Club World Cup semifinals. After their 2-0 victory against Bayern Munich, PSG advanced, spurred by goals from Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele, despite finishing the match down two players due to red cards issued to Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez. Notably, Bayern’s Jamal Musiala sustained a serious injury after a collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

While PSG may be without Pacho and Hernandez for the upcoming match, they are considered favorites to claim the championship title. However, the question remains—who can potentially stop them? In ranking the possible teams that could dethrone the Champions League victors as they chase global success, we find:

4. Borussia Dortmund

The German team, under the coaching of Niko Kovac, could potentially meet PSG but will first need to get past Real Madrid. They have demonstrated strong performance thus far, but overcoming PSG seems like a tall order.

3. Fluminense

Hailing from Brazil, they’ve surprised many by eliminating both Inter and Al-Hilal in the knockout rounds. As they prepare to face Chelsea, a clash against PSG could surface only in the finals. Their remarkable defense might provide them an opportunity to contend effectively.

2. Chelsea

Emerging from a tense quarterfinal with Palmeiras thanks to an own goal, the English side aims for the finals, set to face Fluminense first. With the capable coaching of Enzo Maresca, they possess the talent to challenge PSG, albeit the team dynamics are still under scrutiny.

1. Real Madrid

The Spanish giants are deemed the highest hurdle for PSG. If they pass Borussia Dortmund, they could instantly enter a semifinal bout with PSG. Led by coach Xabi Alonso, and with French icon Kylian Mbappe back from illness, all eyes will be on them as they aim for this final opportunity for silverware this season.
