Chris Paul Considers Retirement: His Final NBA Season Could Be 2025-26

The veteran point guard Chris Paul hints that the upcoming NBA season may mark the end of his illustrious career, reflecting on his two-decade journey.

Point guard Chris Paul is one of the most intriguing NBA free agents this cycle. Now 40, he remains a future Hall of Famer who played all 82 games last season for the San Antonio Spurs and can still contribute to a contender.

Despite his resilience, questions arise about his longevity. Paul addressed this during a recent interview with Jemele Hill.
“At most a year,” Paul stated, “You know I just finished my 20th season, which is a blessing in itself.”

It appears that Paul has confirmed this season as his final one in the NBA. This development comes after he only two months ago remarked to Andscape’s Marc Spears, “I’m going to keep playing, I think.”

“At the end of every season, I evaluate everything; evaluate how I feel, and have discussions with my kids because that’s my most important role. I love to play, but my family means more to me. I will assess it this summer and chat with them about my decision.”

Paul stands as the third-oldest player in the NBA, following LeBron James and P.J. Tucker. The former No. 4 overall pick from the New Orleans Hornets is a 12-time All-Star and one of only two players in NBA history to record 20,000 points and 10,000 assists, alongside LeBron.

While he averaged a career-low of 8.8 points per game last season, his impressive feat of starting in all 82 games stands out. The speculation around the 2025-26 season as his final year only increases as we await to see which team he will join.
