The Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, and NFL Foundation are joining efforts to contribute $1.5 million in donations to assist those affected by the devastating floods in central Texas, which have unfortunately resulted in at least 70 fatalities and left many others unaccounted for. The two Texas teams will each donate $500,000.
Flash floods emerged during the Independence Day weekend as the Guadalupe River swelled to towering heights. Reports indicate that heavy rainfall caused the river to rise 26 feet within a mere 45 minutes, according to Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.
The number of deceased is expected to increase, with Kerr County alone accounting for 59 fatalities, including both adults and children. At least 11 campers are currently missing, along with one counselor, amidst the chaos at Camp Mystic, where around 750 children were present during the flood.
In a statement, the Cowboys expressed their sorrow, stating, “Our hearts are heavy as we witness the devastation and loss of life caused by the floods in Kerr County and Texas Hill County…”
Other counties have also reported fatalities, including at least four in Travis County. Responding to this disaster, President Donald Trump has declared a major disaster for Kerr County to support first responders in their rescue operations.
