Pelicans Strike Trade Deal for Brandon Ingram, Sending Him to the Raptors
The New Orleans Pelicans trade forward Brandon Ingram to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for players and draft picks.
The New Orleans Pelicans are trading forward Brandon Ingram to the Toronto Raptors, according to ESPN. The Raptors will send Bruce Brown Jr., Kelly Olynyk, a first-round pick, and a second-round pick to the Pelicans.
The included first-round pick is the Pacers’ top-four protected pick in 2026, as reported by TSN.
Ingram, a former NBA All-Star, is in the final season of a five-year, $158 million deal. The approach to trade him has been complicated by his upcoming free agency, and the Pelicans have been trying to execute this deal since last summer.
His history with injuries has also posed challenges; he has played only 18 games this season due to an ankle injury. During the games he has played, Ingram has averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists per game, with shooting percentages of 46.5/37.4/85.5. Throughout his career, he has averaged 19.5 points per game.
Ingram, aged 27, has spent more than five seasons in New Orleans, acquired in a significant trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers, where Ingram began his career.
Bruce Brown, who won a championship with the Denver Nuggets in 2023, is joining his sixth team in seven NBA seasons. He is known for his defensive skills and energy off the bench. Kelly Olynyk, a Toronto native, will be moving to his seventh team, having started his career as a first-round pick for the Boston Celtics in 2013.
Currently, the Pelicans sit at the bottom of the Western Conference with a record of 12-39, while the Raptors are in 13th place in the Eastern Conference at 16-35.
