Arsenal is making significant progress in negotiations with Sporting regarding the acquisition of striker Viktor Gyokeres.
Although a deal hasn’t been finalized, Gyokeres appears to be Arsenal’s preferred choice during this summer transfer window, surpassing RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko in priority. The German club remains firm on their asking price of around $94 million for Sesko, creating a competitive atmosphere for Arsenal.
Meanwhile, the transfer fee for Gyokeres has sparked some controversy, with Sporting’s president, Frederico Varandas, asserting a strong stance against any negotiations perceived as ‘blackmail or insults.’ As both clubs work toward an agreement, Gyokeres is reportedly committed to a transition to North London, and Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his team as preseason approaches.
Andrea Berta, Arsenal’s sporting director, is understood to have been a proponent for Gyokeres, whose impressive scoring record at Sporting demonstrates his potential value, having netted 97 goals in 102 matches and winning consecutive league titles. This impressive performance positions him as a leading candidate to fill the center-forward spot Arsenal has been eager to secure.
