Lane Kiffin Critiques Hugh Freeze's Golf Skills Amid Auburn's Recruiting Challenges
Lane Kiffin takes to social media to mock Auburn coach Hugh Freeze's frequent golf outings as the Tigers struggle with their recruiting efforts.
Lane Kiffin, head coach of Ole Miss, frequently uses social media to take jabs at his rivals. His latest target is Hugh Freeze, head coach at Auburn.
Freeze has faced criticism for spending too much time on the golf course while his team struggles with recruiting this summer. In June, AL.com reported that Freeze had played nearly a dozen rounds, outpacing four other SEC coaches.
With Auburn currently ranked 86th in team recruiting for the 2026 class, Kiffin took a shot at Freeze by resurfacing an old social media post where Freeze was celebrating a golf victory at Moore’s Mill Golf Club.

Auburn holds just seven verbal commitments for the upcoming class, having recently lost three recruits, including two four-star players. They did gain a commitment from three-star tight end Kentrell White on July 4th.
As the early signing period approaches, only three Power Four programs have not reached double-digit commitments: Auburn (7), Colorado (5), and Virginia Tech (9).
Despite the pressure, Freeze continues to coach while undergoing treatment for early-stage prostate cancer, as disclosed earlier this year.
