Jordan Spieth Discusses Injury Status Ahead of 2025 Open Championship Following First Career Withdrawal

Jordan Spieth confirms his participation in the upcoming Open Championship after addressing his recent injury that led to a withdrawal during the Travelers Championship.

When the Open Championship kicks off on July 17, former champion Jordan Spieth will be vying for the prestigious Claret Jug. Recently, he had to withdraw from the Travelers Championship due to injury. However, he reassured fans that he will participate in the last major of the 2025 season.

The 31-year-old, who has claimed three major titles, shared that he feels healthy now, explaining the injury that caused his first career withdrawal after 297 starts on the PGA Tour. He noted experiencing neck pain on the morning of the Travelers Championship, attempting to compete despite the discomfort but ultimately withdrawing after hitting his tee shot on the 13th hole.

“It was a weird neck spasm that just came up and I couldn’t get through the round,” Spieth remarked during an appearance on Up & Adams. “I have a great support team that I work with. I knew it was going to be a short-lived issue, which it was.”

He mentioned he is back to peak strength, preparing for the Open Championship next week, followed by the playoffs.

Injuries have been a concern for Spieth over recent years. Last summer, he underwent surgery to fix a lingering wrist issue that began in 2017.

Additionally, Spieth’s arrival for the Open may be slightly delayed as he and his wife, Annie, are expecting their child imminently. “I’ll arrive a bit late, but I’ll make it there,” he said. “Fortunately, I’ve played The Open at this course in Northern Ireland six years ago, so I won’t feel like I need to learn a new course. Just trying to ensure everything is in order before the baby arrives before traveling.”

This upcoming event marks his second appearance at Royal Portrush; he previously finished T20 here in 2019.
