Knicks Deal Jericho Sims to Bucks in Khris Middleton Trade
The New York Knicks have traded Jericho Sims to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of a deal involving Khris Middleton, according to reports.
The Knicks have decided to move on from their fourth-year big man.
The New York Knicks are trading reserve big man Jericho Sims to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of the Kyle Kuzma-for-Khris Middleton trade, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The Knicks will receive Delon Wright and cash in exchange for Sims, who has been considered the most likely Knick to move at the deadline for most of the season.
The Bucks also received the draft rights to Mathias Lessort, while the Knicks picked up the draft rights to Hugo Besson.
Sims was the No. 58 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, with the Knicks optimistic about his growth as a contributor. As an athletic big man with a long wingspan and solid mobility, he possesses the tools to develop into a viable NBA center. However, in four years with New York, this potential has not materialized.
Sims has played sparingly with the Knicks, never exceeding 52 games in a season or averaging over 16 minutes per game. This season, with Mitchell Robinson injured, he had an opportunity to earn rotation minutes behind Karl-Anthony Towns but struggled when given the chance.
While the Bucks might not be finished making moves, Sims has the potential to get on the court for them. Brook Lopez is their primary center, but Milwaukee currently lacks a traditional backup. Giannis Antetokounmpo has been playing backup center minutes and may continue into the playoffs, but giving Sims a shot could help keep him fresh during the regular season.
Wright has not seen much action for the Bucks this season and has struggled offensively. While he has been a below-average shooter, he does bring defensive capabilities to the Knicks’ backcourt, where they need more perimeter defense.
