Eli Manning and Auburn Fans Achieve World Record for Toilet Paper Rolling at Toomer's Corner

Auburn supporters set a new Guinness World Record by tossing 7,125 rolls of toilet paper onto the iconic oak trees at Toomer's Corner, aided by Eli Manning.

Eli Manning embraced an Auburn tradition and aided the Tigers’ supporters in establishing a world record on Tuesday for the most toilet paper rolled on two oak trees. After significant sports victories, Auburn fans gather at Toomer’s Corner to toss rolls of toilet paper onto the oaks at the intersection of College St. and Magnolia Ave. As part of Manning’s show, “Eli’s Places,” they set an officially recognized record with 7,125 rolls thrown.

Former Auburn quarterbacks Patrick Nix and Bo Nix participated in the event alongside Manning, throwing toilet paper into the sky. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey was supposed to attend the record-setting event but ended up not showing up. However, she officially recognized the record and has commissioned a plaque to commemorate the achievement.

“In accordance with all available records, these individuals achieved what was previously unheard of by any other person in history,” Auburn professor Keith S. Hébert stated at the event, reading from Ivey’s decree. “Accordingly, I recognize and affirm this moment as the official world record for the highest number of toilet paper rolls ever rolled on two oak trees.”

According to the Montgomery Advertiser, there was previously no official record to beat. Instead, Manning’s event set a new benchmark for future toilet paper rollings at Toomer’s Corner.

The 7,125-roll count is derived from the rolls purchased for the event and an estimate of the total rolls that fans brought themselves. The number was not included on the plaque from the Governor because attendance figures were uncertain ahead of the event.

Toomer’s Corner is a cornerstone of Auburn sports history. Named after Toomer’s Drugs, a local business present at the intersection since 1896, the tree-lined square welcomes fans after games across various sports. The origin of the tradition of throwing toilet paper onto the trees remains unclear, but the university mentions that Toomer’s Drugs once hosted the only telegraph in the city, used by employees to throw ticker tape across power lines to announce sports victories after away football games.

The oak trees were part of a rivalry incident during the 2010 Iron Bowl when they were poisoned after the game against Alabama, eventually leading to their removal three years later. Two replacement trees were planted in 2015.
