A'ja Wilson's Injury Update: Aces MVP Undergoes MRI After Fall Against Liberty
A'ja Wilson, the three-time WNBA MVP, suffers a wrist injury during a game against the New York Liberty, leading to an MRI for further evaluation.
A’ja Wilson, star of the Las Vegas Aces, exited the game against the New York Liberty on Tuesday after sustaining a wrist injury. Wilson was seen on the bench later with her wrist heavily wrapped. Coach Becky Hammon did not provide an update, but confirmed an MRI would be conducted on Wednesday.
Wilson shared on social media that the MRI was completed, but results are awaited. She humorously posted, “Welp! Nothing wakes you up like the sound of an MRI machine lol! But just wanna say thank you for all prayers! NYL thank you sooooo much for the quick help and privacy I truly appreciate it. To my squad thank you for preventing my crash out lol! God has a plan that I’ll never question. We are gonna be alright!”
The injury occurred during an awkward fall after being fouled by Leonie Fiebich. Despite the pain, she took her free throws before heading to the locker room just before halftime.
As her teammates supported her, Wilson’s absence in the second half was notable, and she was ruled out for the remainder of the match. Currently, it is uncertain how long she will be sidelined, putting the Aces’ playoff hopes at risk as they stand at a disappointing 9-10 this season.
Jackie Young commented on the impact of Wilson’s injury stating, “Whenever a person goes out we all try to step up. I mean, it’s A’ja Wilson, not one person can just fill that role. We just all try to make it a team effort, but we came up a little bit short. Hoping that it’s nothing too serious… She’s the heart and soul of this team, so we all have her back. She has our back every night.”
With the next game against the Washington Mystics approaching, the Aces will need their star player back on the court as they aim to improve their standings.
