The ongoing contract negotiation between the Washington Commanders and their star wide receiver, Terry McLaurin, remains unresolved as McLaurin is aiming for a long-term deal before the start of the 2025 season. After a standout 2024 season, McLaurin opted out of a mandatory minicamp in June due to the contract stalemate.
Joe Theismann, the former Commanders quarterback and Super Bowl champion, is advocating for a swift resolution to McLaurin’s contract situation amid swirling trade rumors. He stated:
“That would be a major problem for all of us that appreciate what the Commanders have done, what Terry has done. His intangibles and his value to this football team are even more outweighed than his talent, which we know is extreme.”
“This would be a significant issue for the organization and fans who value the contributions of McLaurin and the franchise’s history.”
Reports suggest that McLaurin is seeking a deal approximating $30 million per year, a figure placing him among the highest-paid wide receivers in the league. As the new season approaches, only a select few receivers currently earn at that level, underscoring the importance of reaching an agreement.
Theismann emphatically remarked,
“He needs to be paid right away. We need to put this issue behind us as a football team. He is one of the leaders in this organization and as dependable as they come on gameday.”
“His reliability and performance have consistently shone through with every quarterback change over the years, making his case stronger than ever for a new contract.”
