Former Trail Blazers Player Ben McLemore Sentenced to Prison for Rape Conviction

Ben McLemore, an ex-NBA guard, has received a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of raping a woman at a party.

Former Portland Trail Blazers guard Ben McLemore has been sentenced to 100 months (just over eight years) in Oregon state prison after being found guilty of raping a 21-year-old woman at a house party in 2021.

McLemore, who last played for the Trail Blazers in 2022, was sentenced in Clackamas County Circuit Court. He faced multiple charges including first-degree rape, unlawful sexual penetration, and second-degree sexual abuse. Although the jury acquitted him of one additional second-degree sexual abuse charge, McLemore pleaded not guilty to all counts and did not address the court during sentencing.

The incident occurred on October 3, 2021, at the home of former teammate Robert Covington in Lake Oswego, Oregon. An investigation ensued shortly after police received the report.

“Many people are often afraid to report this type of conduct for a number of reasons,” Scott Healy, Clackamas County First Assistant District Attorney, said. “Hopefully, the victim’s strength and courage in this case will give others the fortitude to come forward when such incidents occur.”

In February 2024, a grand jury was presented with evidence, including testimony from the victim, leading to an indictment and an arrest warrant for McLemore two months later.

McLemore was the 7th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings and has played for teams like the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Memphis Grizzlies. His last season was with Basketball Super League in Turkey in 2024-25.
