Amon-Ra St. Brown, known for his connection to the Detroit Lions, has become synonymous with the number 14, but it wasn’t the number he initially meant to wear. During his transition from college at USC, where he wore No. 8, he intended for his NFL number to signify the receivers drafted before him before mistakenly selecting 14 due to a counting error from his girlfriend, Brooklyn Adams.
“He’ll never admit this, but he asked me to count the amount of receivers before him, and that was going to be his number, and I messed up,” said Adams on Netflix’s show Quarterback.
St. Brown later reflected that he should technically be wearing No. 16, currently donned by Lions quarterback Jared Goff, acknowledging:
“I should have chose 16 looking back on it, but I think Jared looks better in 16 than me.”
Through his initial seasons, St. Brown has established himself as a leading wide receiver in the NFL, achieving 430 receptions for 4,851 yards and 33 touchdowns, along with earning Pro Bowl selections in back-to-back years.
