Brazilian soccer coach Carlo Ancelotti has recently faced legal repercussions as he was found guilty of tax evasion in Spain. He has been sentenced to a year in prison and fined €386,361 for unpaid taxes on his image rights from 2014, a period during which he was at the helm of Real Madrid. Ancelotti is not anticipated to serve prison time as such sentences for first-time, non-violent offenders are rarely enforced.
This ruling follows a detailed court analysis, revealing that previous charges for the fiscal year 2015 could not be substantiated as he had moved to London following his termination from Real Madrid.
The Court Case
The case was presented at the 30th Criminal Court of the Provincial Court of Madrid and deliberated on April 2 and 3. Ancelotti’s defense claimed that it was Real Madrid’s responsibility to manage tax withholdings, insisting that there was no fraudulent intent.
