2025 Scottish Open: Åberg and McIlroy Surge into Contention

The second round of the 2025 Scottish Open sees Chris Gotterup in the lead, but notable players like Ludvig Åberg and Rory McIlroy are close behind, creating an exciting competition.

The 2025 Scottish Open sees Chris Gotterup leading after an impressive second-round score of 61, matching the course record at the Renaissance Club and securing an 11 under path into the weekend. As he looks back, notable golfers Ludvig Åberg, Rory McIlroy, and Xander Schauffele are making their push for the title.

Åberg managed to bounce back after starting with two bogeys, securing a 65 with eight birdies, leaving him at 8 under for the tournament, just three shots behind. McIlroy, the defending champion, albeit not maintaining his early pace, finished with a 65, now at 7 under and in a tie for sixth place.

McIlroy commented on his performance, saying, “I got off to a bit of a flyer. The conditions were so benign this morning, hardly any wind. The wind started to pick up on the back nine for us but still very manageable.”

Schauffele also had a good performance, finishing the day with 66, placing him in contention for the weekend.

Gotterup’s round marked a significant turnaround from last year’s missed cut, showcasing his capacity for the challenges of links golf.

Contenders for the title include:

  1. Chris Gotterup (-11)
  2. Harry Hall (-9)
  3. Ludvig Åberg, Matt Fitzpatrick, Marco Penge (-8)
  4. Rory McIlroy, Sepp Straka, Jake Knapp (-7)
  5. Xander Schauffele, Brian Harman (-6)
  6. Scottie Scheffler (-5)

Notable players missing the cut include Sungjae Im (E), J.J. Spaun (+2), and Collin Morikawa (+4).

2025 Scottish Open odds see Gotterup as the favorite at 5-1, followed closely by McIlroy at 6-1 and Åberg at 15/2.
