2025 MLB Home Run Derby: Changes in the Contestants Announced

Matt Olson will replace Ronald Acuña Jr. in the upcoming 2025 Home Run Derby, alongside notable players like Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Cal Raleigh.

The participants for the upcoming 2025 Home Run Derby received a significant update this past Saturday when Matt Olson of the Atlanta Braves was named as a substitute for Ronald Acuña Jr. This alteration was made following Acuña’s announcement that he will not take part in the event but will still serve as a starting outfielder for the National League during the All-Star Game.

Acuña is currently undergoing recovery from surgery to mend a torn ACL and has also been managing recent back issues. Olson, a notable power hitter, is having a remarkable season with a .481 slugging percentage and 17 home runs over 92 games this year, following a standout 2023 season where he hit 54 home runs, leading the majors.

This year’s Derby, scheduled for July 14 at 7 p.m. ET in Atlanta, will also feature other competitors including Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the New York Yankees, as well as Cal Raleigh from the Seattle Mariners. Acuña’s absence in the lineup has opened the door for new talent, creating an exciting opportunity for fresh faces to shine. The winner will be awarded a special commemorative chain at the event.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. joins as a competitive contender in this year’s derby, alongside various other players who have proven their mettle in previous competitions, such as Brent Rooker and Junior Caminero. Both players are expected to bring their powerful batting skills to the forefront.

The festival of baseball festivities continues as we anticipate an exhilarating competition among some of the league’s top talent.
