Hugh Freeze Stands by His Love for Golf Amid Recruiting Challenges for Auburn

Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze addresses criticism regarding his golf outings while focusing on the upcoming 2026 recruiting class.

Auburn’s head coach, Hugh Freeze, affirms his passion for golf, dismissing concerns that it affects his coaching duties. Despite recent struggles with the Tigers’ recruiting, Freeze defends his recreational activities, emphasizing that he remains committed to his role.

“You know, everybody seems to like to talk about my golf game. … I do love golf. I enjoy playing. But what people don’t realize is, you know, I assure you that I never missed a camp day or a recruiting day,” said Hugh Freeze on David Pollack’s “See Ball Get Ball” podcast.

Since taking the helm at Auburn, Freeze has faced criticism related to his golf outings while attempting to enhance the school’s recruiting efforts. Auburn’s 2026 recruiting class has seen a decline, falling to the bottom tier within the SEC rankings.

Currently, the Tigers hold nine commitments, including three four-star prospects, resulting in an overall ranking of No. 78 nationally.

Freeze stresses that his focus remains firmly on the team, stating, “I think it’s a long game play for us that I think is gonna work out in our favor…”
