Emma Hayes Envisions a Progressive Future for the USWNT
Amidst the preparations for the Olympic cycle, coach Emma Hayes plans to redefine the US women's national soccer team's mission.
U.S. women’s national team head coach Emma Hayes had only 75 days to build toward an Olympic gold medal. It would typically be considered an impossible task for some, but Hayes and the USWNT achieved what many thought they couldn’t. Now, she and the group have their sights set on the 2027-28 cycle already. This time, with a more traditional build-up and preparation for a manager, and while Hayes wants to compete for spots on the podium, she also wants to help refocus the entire ecosystem.
Hayes is working on launching a strategy, The WNT Way, which emphasizes placing the female lens at the heart of everything we do, she explained during a virtual roundtable.
Her goal aligns with the U.S. Soccer Federation’s The U.S. Way strategy, designed to enhance player development and service the growth of soccer across the nation.
Hayes elaborated on the significance of her approach: “Beyond winning and competing to win, what do we want our program to stand for?”
The WNT Way Mission involves several key principles, including:
- Becoming a world leader in the “Female 360” approach
- Innovating and evolving practices
- Creating inclusive environments for appreciation and growth
Hayes believes this evolving strategy, while it may not show results overnight, sets a foundation for future generations, ensuring that they experience soccer with a focus on female perspectives.
“Seeing everything through a female lens is crucial. We aim to raise the bar for the global game and create a supportive environment for our girls and women,” stated Hayes.
