Garrett Wilson Signs Major Contract Extension with Jets

The New York Jets secure star wide receiver Garrett Wilson with a lucrative four-year, $130 million extension, featuring considerable guaranteed money.

The New York Jets and star wide receiver Garrett Wilson have finalized a four-year, $130 million contract extension that includes $90 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Wilson has participated in all 51 games over his initial three seasons after being selected as the 10th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The talented receiver has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards each season, ending the previous year with career-highs: 101 receptions, 1,104 yards, and seven touchdowns.
Wilson has been the leading receiver for the Jets throughout these years and is among only five players in NFL history to record at least 1,000 receiving yards and over 80 receptions in each of their first three seasons: these peers include Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Odell Beckham Jr., and Michael Thomas.
His 3,249 receiving yards stands as the highest among the 2022 draft class and ranks 10th overall in the NFL during that timeframe. With an average yearly salary of $32.5 million, he is now the fifth-highest paid receiver in the NFL, following Chase, Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, and DK Metcalf.
Despite inconsistent quarterback performances, Wilson has achieved considerable success since joining the NFL, showcasing his talent despite having played with seven different quarterbacks. After acquiring Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers earlier, his initial season was marred with injury following a torn Achilles on his fourth snap. In 2024, Rodgers managed to play a complete season, but the Jets only won five games out of 17. Following this season, newly appointed coach Aaron Glenn decided to change the direction at the quarterback position, ultimately releasing Rodgers.
In the 2025 season, Wilson will welcome his eighth quarterback, with the Jets having signed Justin Fields on a two-year, $40 million deal. Fields, the former Chicago Bears draft pick, joins after spending three seasons there and a brief term with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he had notable success in the early part of the 2024 season.
Wilson, having just concluded his most productive season, topped the Jets in various statistics, including receptions and receiving yards, after Davante Adams was released from the team earlier this March.
