Dustin Poirier is set to face off against the fighter he initially introduced to the UFC. The bout, dubbed Holloway vs. Poirier 3, will take place at UFC 318 this weekend. Poirier will bid farewell to his fighting career in front of his Louisiana fans, reportedly accompanied by rapper Lil Wayne. Holloway, now competing as a full-time lightweight, intends to defend the ceremonial BMF championship.
Poirier comes into this matchup with a perfect record of 2-0 against Holloway. He originally submitted Holloway during their 2012 clash, marking Holloway’s surprise entry into the UFC, and was victorious again in their 2019 encounter where Holloway, then UFC featherweight champion, lost a unanimous decision in a fight for the interim lightweight title.
Looking ahead, UFC will return to PPV on August 16 with a thrilling main event where Dricus du Plessis will defend his UFC middleweight title against the unstoppable Khamzat Chimaev, who is expected to be a future titleholder. The supporting card features a notable middleweight bout between Jared Cannonier and Michael “Venom” Page.
