Rick Hart Steps Down as SMU's Athletic Director Following a Transformative Tenure

Rick Hart, who has led SMU's athletic department since 2012, is set to resign, marking the culmination of significant changes for the Mustangs.

Rick Hart, who has guided SMU’s athletic department since 2012, will step down at the end of the academic year. He will assist in finding his replacement during this transition period.

‘It is with tremendous pride, heartfelt love, and yes, mixed emotions, that I share I have made the decision that this academic year will be my last at SMU,’ said Hart in a statement.
Translation: “Es con un gran orgullo, amor sincero y, sí, emociones encontradas, que comparto que he tomado la decisión de que este año académico será mi último en SMU.”

In his 13 years, Hart has seen significant changes, including SMU’s elevation to the ACC, leading to important successes in the athletic programs, particularly in football and basketball.

During his tenure, Hart oversaw the completion of numerous upgrades, including a $100 million enhancement to Gerald J. Ford Stadium, dedicated prior to the school’s ACC debut.
