Potential NBA Expansion: Silver Discusses Future and Portland Sale

The NBA's Commissioner Adam Silver indicates a formal analysis of expansion plans while addressing the potential sale of the Portland Trail Blazers.

The NBA seems to be gearing up for a possible expansion following Commissioner Adam Silver’s recent comments. Silver noted that while there is significant interest from team owners about adding new franchises, no concrete decisions have been made yet regarding expansion fees or timelines.

He stated, “A lot of analysis still needs to be done and nothing has been predetermined,” suggesting that the discussion is just the beginning. Currently, existing advisory committees will handle the study rather than forming a new committee.

Cities like Las Vegas and Seattle are regarded as top candidates for expansion, with expectations from Silver hinting that it will happen eventually. Silver emphasized a methodical approach, asserting the importance of a holistic plan for the league.

As for the Portland Trail Blazers, they are also on the market following a decision by Paul Allen’s estate to sell the team, with Silver expressing hope that it remains in Portland. He indicated that potential buyers would face challenges, particularly concerning the need for a new arena.

Overall, while the future remains uncertain, the NBA appears poised to explore expansion in a calculated manner.
