Lamine Yamal Extends Contract with FC Barcelona, Set to Wear Iconic No. 10

The young football star Lamine Yamal has signed a contract extension with FC Barcelona that will keep him at the club until 2031 and will bring back the legendary No. 10 jersey.

Barcelona has announced that the young Spanish footballer Lamine Yamal has signed a contract extension, ensuring his stay until the summer of 2031. The 18-year-old will don the legendary No. 10 jersey, previously worn by both Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi, starting from the 2025-26 season.

This announcement comes shortly after Yamal’s 18th birthday, marking an important milestone in his career. The agreement had been reached, but official signing was pending until he reached adulthood.

“Lamine Yamal will wear the coveted No. 10 jersey for FC Barcelona next season,” the club announced, also stating that he was presented with the jersey by president Joan Laporta.

Yamal’s contract includes a base salary of €15 million per season, which could rise to €20 million with performance-related bonuses.

In a club statement, Barcelona remarked, “This is the latest step in the La Masia starlet’s ascent to the pinnacle of football. Taking on such a symbolically significant number underscores Lamine’s confidence and responsibility. He inherits the number left vacant when Ansu Fati transferred to AS Monaco, just as Barcelona seeks to defend their domestic treble of Liga, Copa, and Supercopa titles.”

What He Has Achieved So Far

Yamal debuted in April 2023 and has quickly become a key player, making 115 appearances and scoring 25 goals as well as providing 34 assists. Alongside his club success, he has also won two La Ligas, one Copa del Rey, and a Spanish Super Cup, demonstrating his pivotal role in the team’s achievements under managers Xavi and Hansi Flick.
