The 2025 Open Championship is set for four challenging days of links golf at one of the UK’s iconic courses. This year’s competition kicks off on Thursday, with a large field aiming for the famous Claret Jug for just the third time in this historic tournament’s existence at Royal Portrush. Rory McIlroy returns to his hometown course, where he recorded a remarkable 61 at just 16 years old, but he faced a tough opening round of 78 during the last Open held here in 2019.

A variety of golfers, including McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Scottie Scheffler, and Xander Schauffele, are competing for their second major title of the year. The weather can change rapidly on the course, adding to the challenge.
