Ben Simmons Joins NBA Buyout Market with Three Potential Teams Interested

Simmons is seeking a fresh start as he explores job options after being released from the Nets, with interest from multiple teams.

The troubled saga of Ben Simmons with the Brooklyn Nets is reaching its conclusion as both parties agree to a contract buyout, making Simmons available as a free agent. Following this mutual decision, several teams have expressed interest, with scheduled meetings already lined up with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers.

Simmons was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but his $40 million contract made any trades challenging. The buyout allows both Simmons to find a new team and the Nets to expedite their farewell.

The ordeal over recent years for Simmons began when he departed the Philadelphia 76ers under contentious circumstances, post a second-round playoff exit in 2021. He has since played only 90 games for the Nets over the last three seasons, battling injuries, especially to his back. Despite the challenges, Simmons has showcased that he can still contribute as a role player, playing healthily this season until now.

As for the three interested teams, the Cavaliers might be the most strategic fit for Simmons, likely allowing him to step into a supportive role as they gear up for a playoff run. Both the Clippers and Rockets have their advantages, too, with the clips potentially giving Simmons a chance to reunite with Harden.

In light of the buyout, Simmons is positioning himself for further opportunities ahead of free agency this summer, likely on a modest contract.
