馃弻 Rory McIlroy Looks for Redemption at The Open
Pour a cup of coffee and keep them coming, golf fans. One of the biggest weekends of the year is here at The Open Championship, which will be underway by the time you read this.
Rory McIlroy is not scheduled to tee off until 10:10 a.m. ET. That will give him ample time to contemplate his previous experience at the Royal Portrush venue in 2019, which he may have tried to forget over the last six years.
In 2019, McIlroy’s first tee shot went out of bounds, resulting in a disheartening opening round of 79, despite bouncing back with a second-round score of 65.
This time around, McIlroy brings a career Grand Slam under his belt, which expert Patrick McDonald believes will positively influence his game.
McDonald: “What memories McIlroy makes this week remain to be seen, dictated largely by his performance and responses to challenges, but he appears more engaged than during the last championship.”
Additionally, multiple other teams are reshaping their rosters this offseason, as Von Miller joins the Washington Commanders after signing a one-year contract aimed at boosting their pass-rushing capabilities. Previously released by the Bills, Miller expressed intent to continue his career.
In related developments, the trade deadline discussions in MLB are heating up, with the Boston Red Sox making a surge up the rankings after initially struggling. Their recent strong performance has positioned them as significant buyers in the market.
Perry: “Despite prior setbacks after the Rafael Devers trade, a 10-1 record has flipped their buyer status, making them highly competitive in the AL East.”
As the Open Championship and the trade deadline approach, sports fans have plenty to watch and follow over the coming days.
