Rashee Rice Faces Potential Suspension Following Hit-and-Run Sentence

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has received a jail sentence for a hit-and-run incident, raising questions about his future with the team.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation for his involvement in a high-speed, multi-car crash in 2024. His potential suspension from the NFL remains uncertain as the league waits for the legal proceedings to conclude.

According to CBS Sports’ senior NFL insider Jonathan Jones, the situation is serious. “There is no doubt about it, he [Rice] will be suspended by the NFL,” he stated during an update on CBS Sports HQ.

If found guilty, the baseline suspension under the NFL personal conduct policy is six games, but Jones speculates Rice could face between five to seven games. Last season, he didn’t receive a suspension and played in four matches before succumbing to a knee injury.

The Chiefs’ first seven games are against notable opponents, and if Rice receives a seven-game suspension, he would return in time for a match against the Washington Commanders on October 27.

Jones mentioned that the league might consider extenuating circumstances, such as Rice’s apologies and community contributions. However, Rice’s actions—driving 40 mph above the speed limit and neglecting to stay on the scene of the 2024 collision—might weigh against him.
