The Arizona Diamondbacks began the second half of their season missing one of their top players, Ketel Marte. Marte, who played an impressive role for the NL during the All-Star Game, was placed on the restricted list on Friday.
Reports revealed that Marte’s residence was burglarized while he was participating in the All-Star festivities. This led to his request for a break from the team. According to sources, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo noted that he was aware of Marte’s situation and respected his need for some time off to recover emotionally.
Marte’s home was burglarized while he was at the All-Star Game, and manager Torey Lovullo hinted that this prompted Marte to take a couple of days off.
“He asked for some time off, time away, just to get grounded and get himself back to where he can come back here and play and be a force,” Lovullo stated.
Ketel Marte, 31, has recorded a batting average of .290 with 19 homers and 40 RBIs this season, marking his status as a three-time All-Star.
