Colts QB Competition: Camryn Bynum Discusses the Face-Off Between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones
In the lead-up to training camp, Colts safety Camryn Bynum expresses confidence in both Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones as they vie for the starting quarterback position.
Indianapolis Colts safety Camryn Bynum believes the team is well-equipped to achieve success this season, regardless of whether Anthony Richardson or Daniel Jones takes the starting quarterback role. He is eager to see how the training camp competition unfolds later this month.
The Colts signed Jones on a one-year deal in March, offering the former New York Giants first-round pick the opportunity to showcase his skills with the team.
“I think this is a great scenario for any quarterback to be in,” Bynum commented during a recent interview. “It’s challenging because you’re competing for a spot, but as a competitor, that’s what you want. You don’t want anything handed to you. Both quarterbacks are working hard, trying to establish themselves as the starter this year. They’ve both shown great performance in the spring, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it develops.”
Bynum emphasized that facing off against skilled quarterbacks will provide valuable challenges for the defense.

Richardson missed minicamp due to a shoulder injury, creating space for Jones to shine, which has pleased Colts coach Shane Steichen. “He’s performed admirably, demonstrating exceptional game intelligence and quick learning of the offense during OTAs,” Steichen noted.
Jones, who started the first 10 games for the Giants last season, was benched after a disappointing 2-8 record. He subsequently requested to be released, thereby concluding his six-year stint in New York.
Due to injury and performance struggles, Richardson has had a challenging beginning to his career, participating in just four games as a rookie and starting 11 last season, where he recorded 1,814 passing yards with eight touchdowns against 12 interceptions.
At one point, Richardson experienced a benching and had the lowest completion percentage among NFL starters at 47.7%.
Colts general manager Chris Ballard has expressed his belief in Richardson, stating that he selected Richardson at No. 4 overall in 2023 because he didn’t want to risk the quarterback succeeding in another franchise. This decision was met with criticism due to Richardson’s minimal starts and development as a passer during his college career at Florida.
