UFC great Jon Jones is “disappointed” upon learning he won’t take part in the proposed UFC event to be held at the White House in 2026. Despite this setback, Jones affirms he remains in the UFC testing pool and continues to train following his retirement from competition a month ago.
Fans had anticipated an announcement about a fight between Jones and interim champion Tom Aspinall. However, on June 21, Dana White confirmed that Jones had announced his retirement and named Aspinall the undisputed heavyweight champion.
After the UFC disclosed collaboration with President Donald Trump to host a UFC card at the White House in July 2026 to celebrate America’s 250th Independence Day, Jones re-entered the testing pool and expressed a desire to join the event.
In early July, Dana White shared with the “Full Send Podcast” his vision for the “dream main event” featuring Jones versus Aspinall. However, during the UFC 318 press conference, his tone regarding Jones’s participation shifted.
“You know how I felt about him,” White remarked. “I just can’t risk placing him in significant positions in such a vital setting, particularly at the White House event.”
Jones carries a history of issues, with instances of failed drug tests and legal troubles. Recently, he faced allegations of fleeing from a vehicular incident, a charge for which he has faced repercussions in the past. Body camera footage seemingly depicts Jones speaking with an officer on a cellphone, implying that he has “evil people” around him who would do harm for him.
On Sunday, Jones responded to White’s remarks expressing doubt about placing him in a high-stakes fight at the White House.
“While I was slightly disheartened, I’m fully engaged in the UFC’s drug testing, maintaining my focus, and training like a pro. I am prepared for whatever happens next.”
He further elaborated, stating that the chance to fight at the White House added significance to his purpose beyond monetary rewards or championship belts. “Fighting for my country provides a higher calling!”
Jon concluded his message, underscoring his eagerness to participate in the anticipated event. “For now, I’ll persist, remain hopeful, and stay loyal. I’m set to fight on July 4th.”
