Venus Williams Hints at Serena’s Possible Return to Tennis After Her Own Comeback

Venus Williams discusses her own return to tennis while speculating about her sister Serena's potential comeback.

As Venus Williams gears up to compete in her first match in over a year, she has not ruled out her sister Serena Williams also making a return to the sport.

Venus, participating in this week’s DC Open, addressed inquiries regarding her sister Serena, who boasts an impressive record of 23 singles and 14 doubles Grand Slam titles but has not played since the 2022 U.S. Open.

“I keep saying to my team: The only thing that would make this better is if she was here,” Venus remarked, adding, “We always did everything together, so of course I miss her. But if she comes back, I’m sure she’ll let y’all know.”

Recent discussions regarding a Serena comeback intensified after she posted a video of herself practicing on a tennis court with the message: “Still Serena.” Among the over 5,000 comments, Olympic champion Michael Phelps noted her potential.

Additionally, Venus revealed that Serena joined in one of her workouts briefly. “She can take six months off and she clocks it clean,” said Venus. “You can’t teach that kind of talent. She’s just so good.”

While she hopes for her sister’s return, Venus, now 45, is focusing on her own comeback at the DC Open, marking her first professional event since the Miami Open in March 2024. “This is very special for me to come back and play tennis,” she expressed. “I think it’s a surprise for the fans — and a surprise in general, as I hold my cards tight.”
