The SEC recently concluded its football media days; however, Commissioner Greg Sankey couldn’t hold back from addressing some drama emerging from the Big Ten Media Days happening in Las Vegas. Complaints regarding the event’s location and playful jabs created some buzz among attendees.
Coach James Franklin of Penn State criticized the Big Ten’s choice to host the media days outside what he referred to as “Big Ten Country,” while simultaneously lauding the structure of the SEC. He consistently referred to the SEC as “that other conference.”
In a lighthearted response shared on social media, Sankey quipped:
“Greetings from That Other Conference!”

Franklin commented on the matter stating, “Big Ten Media Days is significant in our region. Most of our teams are not located on the West Coast. Acknowledging those programs is essential, but traveling to Las Vegas has made it difficult for many of our reporters to attend.”
In years past, this event was typically situated in more central locations like Indianapolis or Chicago, making it easier for many conference members to participate. This year’s move to Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Resort has only made attendance conveniently reachable for a couple of teams like USC and UCLA.
As the dialogue surrounding these media days unfolds, it appears that the SEC has showcased effective messaging strategies, while the Big Ten continues working on amplifying its presence.
