Bueckers and Stewart Highlight Surge in Interest for WNBA Trading Cards
The rising popularity of women’s basketball leads to increased demand for trading cards, as many new players enter the market.
In a recent discussion, Paige Bueckers and Breanna Stewart shed light on the booming market for WNBA trading cards, indicating a significant rise in popularity as more players are entering the scene.
Stewart shared, “I think the first time I saw myself in a trading card, it was a card from UConn. And now to be working with Panini, signing up every single year, seeing the updated version of myself, it’s really cool. It’s another way to get people engaged in what we’re doing and connected.”
Panini, who started its licensing with the WNBA in 2019, has seen a surge in interest, particularly with the arrival of star players like Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark. Howarth noted, “Last year, it really took on a new shape with that rookie class…lots of new faces and players to follow.”
Bueckers reflected on her childhood, sharing how she would ask her father to buy her cards when they were out shopping. “I used to have like a whole binder with the clear cardholders… just for collecting. My journey has come full circle, which is amazing, and I’m extremely thankful for where I am now.”
Both athletes emphasized the powerful connection trading cards create between players and fans, highlighting their role in elevating women’s sports as a whole. According to Howarth, Panini is excited about the upcoming launch of their first WNBA Donruss product, slated for release soon.
