Nick Kurtz Makes History with Four Home Runs in One Game for the Athletics
Rookie Nick Kurtz of the Athletics achieved an unprecedented milestone by hitting four home runs in a single game against the Astros, solidifying his place in MLB history.
Rookie Nick Kurtz of the Athletics accomplished one of baseball’s rarest feats on Friday night in Houston by hitting four home runs in a single game. This achievement places him among just the 20th players in MLB history to have done so. Notably, he is the second player this season to reach this milestone, following Eugenio Suárez of the Diamondbacks from April 26. The last time it occurred was in 2017 when Scooter Gennett and J.D. Martinez both hit four home runs in a game.
Kurtz’s remarkable performance contributed to a 15-3 victory over the Astros.

In addition to his four home runs, Kurtz went 6 for 6, secured a double, scored six runs, and collected eight RBIs in the game.
Interestingly, Kurtz is the first American League player to achieve this feat since Josh Hamilton on May 8, 2012. He is the first A’s player to accomplish a four-homer game.
This achievement marks Kurtz’s entry into an exclusive club:
- First rookie to join the four-homer club.
- At 22 years old, he is the youngest player ever to record four homers in a single game.
- Only the second player to achieve six hits in a game, following Shawn Green on May 23, 2002.
- Sixth player to achieve at least four home runs and eight RBIs in the same game.
- The first with a combination of six hits, four homers, and eight RBIs.
As a result, Kurtz’s current season averages stand at .305/.374/.686 with him ranked among the league leaders. He is now the frontrunner for the AL Rookie of the Year award, overtaking his teammate Jacob Wilson.
This performance may be chronological testimony to Kurtz’s remarkable rookie season, showcasing one of the greatest individual performances in major-league history.
