The New York Jets have embarked on a significant spending endeavor this month, securing their top players, including extensions for wide receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner for a total of $250.4 million. However, running back Breece Hall reports that he doesn’t expect a contract renewal anytime soon.
Hall, still under his rookie contract, is set to earn $3.4 million this season and may not negotiate a new deal until later in the year or after his fourth season concludes. “I’m not really expecting it before the season,” Hall noted during training camp. “We got a new head coach, new GM, and obviously I wasn’t drafted by them. I’m not their guy. So for me, I gotta prove it every day. I feel like right now, it’s my last chance. It’s always been, ‘He’s got potential,’ but now I want to be the product. It’s all about putting my head down and focusing on the game.”
The Jets have made significant changes, appointing Aaron Glenn as coach and Darren Mougey as general manager, leaving Hall feeling less prioritized in contracts.
Despite facing challenges, Hall has shown considerable promise. Last season, he ended just six yards short of 1,000 rushing yards and excelled as a pass-catcher, accumulating 76 receptions for 591 yards and four touchdowns. However, a torn ACL disrupted his progress, making this season crucial for his future with the Jets.
A standout season could secure Hall a lucrative future deal, while struggles could mean exploring opportunities elsewhere.
