
Quarterfinals Highlights: Aftershocks and We Are D3 Move Forward
The Basketball Tournament quarterfinals showcased intense competition, with Aftershocks and We Are D3 securing their spots in the semifinals.
With a prize of $1 million at stake, the quarterfinals of The Basketball Tournament did not disappoint.
We Are D3 commenced the exciting matchups by defeating Fail Harder, qualifying for the semifinals scheduled for July 31. Subsequently, Aftershocks—a team composed of alumni from Wichita State—achieved a significant victory over Heartfire.
The remaining teams, including Best Virginia (representing West Virginia), Shell Shock (comprised of Maryland alumni), Eberlein Drive, and Sideline Cancer, are set to compete on Monday night in the final two quarterfinal games.
Aftershocks 74, Heartfire 68
Both teams battled closely in the first half, with Aftershocks slightly leading at halftime, 33-30. Entering the Elam Ending—where the game clock stops and a target score is established—Aftershocks held a six-point advantage at 66-60. They quickly targeted a final score of 74, ultimately pulling off a commanding victory.
Tevin Mack from Heatfire scored 18 points, while Marcus Keene led Aftershocks with 15 points.
We Are D3 95, Fail Harder 93
In this match, We Are D3 surged ahead, scoring 23 points in the first quarter—more than double that of Fail Harder, which managed 11. Fail Harder rallied in the second, scoring 25 points against We Are D3’s 21. Both Marcus Azor and Darius Adams made their mark with 13 points each in the first half.
Leading at halftime, We Are D3 came out strong in the third quarter, increasing their lead to 86-66 by the time they reached the Elam Ending. Both teams fought fiercely in the final quarter, ending up tied at 93.
Ultimately, Fail Harder fell just short of breaking the record for the largest comeback in TBT history, as Darius Adams topped all scores with 44 points, while Ty Nichols and Dimitrius Underwood each contributed 19 points for We Are D3.
